GBT 1733-1993 "Determination of water resistance of paint film" stipulates the determination method of water resistance of paint film, including immersion test method and immersion boiling water test method. After the specified test time is reached, the water resistance of the paint film is expressed by the surface change phenomenon.

Number: GB/T 1733-1993Name: Determination of water resistance of paint filmStatus: Active

1 Theme content and scope of application

This standard specifies the method for determining the water resistance of paint films, including the water immersion test method and the boiling water immersion test method. After reaching the specified test time, the water resistance of the paint film is expressed by the surface change phenomenon.

2 Reference standards

GB 1727 General preparation method of paint film

GB 1764 Paint film thickness determination method

GB 3186 Sampling of coating products

GB 6682 Laboratory water specifications

3 Materials and equipment

3.1 Base plate: The base plate should be flat and without distortion, and the surface should be free of any visible cracks and wrinkles. Unless otherwise specified, the base plate shall be 120mm×25mm×0.2~0.3mm tinplate plate.

3.2 Distilled water or deionized water shall comply with the requirements of Grade III water in GB 6682.

3.3 Glass sink.

4 sampling

Unless otherwise specified, it shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB 3186.

5 Treatment and painting of base plate

Unless otherwise specified, prepare paint films on three tinplate plates (3.1) in accordance with the provisions of GB 1727.

6 Drying of test panels

Unless otherwise specified, the sample should be dried according to the drying conditions and time specified in the product standard, and then conditioned according to the constant temperature and humidity conditions and time specified in GB 1727.

7 Determination of paint film thickness

Unless otherwise specified, the dry paint film thickness shall be determined according to the method specified in GB 1764.

8 Coating of edge of test panel

Unless otherwise specified, the test panel shall be edge-sealed with a 1:1 mixture of paraffin wax and rosin before testing, with an edge-sealing width of 2-3 mm.

9 test steps

9.1 Method A: Water immersion test method

9.1.1 Soaking of test panels

Add distilled or deionized water (3.2) to the glass water tank (3.3). Unless otherwise specified, adjust the water temperature to 23 ± 2°C and maintain this temperature throughout the test.

Place three test panels into it and soak 2/3 of the length of each test panel in water.

9.1.2 Inspection of test panels

At the end of the soaking time specified in the product standard, take the test panel out of the tank, blot it dry with filter paper, and visually inspect the test panel immediately or after adjusting it according to the time and state specified in the product standard, and record whether there is loss of gloss, discoloration, Blistering, wrinkling, peeling, rust, etc. and recovery time.

At least two of the three test panels must meet the product standards to be qualified.

9.2 Method B: Boiling water immersion test method

9.2.1 Soaking of test panels

Add distilled water or deionized water (3.2) to the glass water tank (3.3). Unless otherwise specified, keep the water (3.2) in a boiling state until the end of the test.

Place three test panels into it and soak 2/3 of the length of each test panel in water.

9.2.2 Inspection of test panels

Inspect and evaluate the test panels according to the provisions of 9.1.2 of Method A.

10 test report

The test report should include the following content:

a. The model and name of the product under test;

b. Explain the use of this national standard (GB/T1733) and which method (Method A or Method B);

c. Any difference from the content specified in this national standard;

d. Test results (detailed records and assessment results of paint film damage);

e·Test date.
