Determination of polyacrylamide (PAM) solids content

Polyacrylamide (PAM) solids content can be determined by drying method.

The determination steps are as follows:

  1. Take a certain amount of PAM solution (0.11 g in general), put it into a dry dish weighed at room temperature, put the dish in an oven, and dry it at 6080°C for 2 to 3 hours, and take it out after it is completely dry.

  2. Put the drying dish into a desiccator, and dry it at a constant temperature of about 100°C until the weight remains constant.

  3. According to the weight difference before and after drying, calculate the PAM solids content. The calculation formula is:

  4. Solid content (%) = (mass after drying - mass before drying) / mass before drying × 100%

NBCHAO reminds you: In the experiment, the drying temperature and time should be strictly controlled to avoid exceeding the temperature range and taking too long to cause PAM to decompose or volatilize, thereby affecting the measurement results. At the same time, for different types of PAM, the measurement conditions may be different and need to be adjusted according to the actual situation.
