Determination of volatile matter of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)

The volatile content of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) can be determined by the following methods:

  1. Take a certain amount of PVA sample, weigh the exact sample weight and record it.

  2. Put the sample into an Air Oven with constant temperature and humidity, and heat it at a certain temperature (usually 120°C) for a certain period of time (usually 2 hours).

  3. Take out the sample, let it cool down at room temperature, and weigh it.

  4. Calculate the percentage of volatile matter, the formula is: volatile matter (%) = (weight before oven - weight after oven) / weight before oven × 100%.

NBCHAO reminds you: when measuring volatiles, you should pay attention to the selection of temperature and time, so as to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the measurement results. At the same time, the sample should be prevented from being disturbed by external pollution and moisture during the determination process.
