Paper and paperboard - Determination of titanium dioxide content

The content of titanium dioxide in paper and board can be determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry.

The specific method is as follows:

  1. Take a certain amount of paper or cardboard sample, add a sufficient amount of deionized water, mix evenly, and prepare a homogeneous suspension.

  2. Filter the suspension with glass fiber filter paper, and collect the filtrate.

  3. The filtrate was used for spectrophotometric determination. The collected filtrates were placed in the cuvettes of the Spectrophotometer , and the absorbance was recorded.

  4. A series of standard solutions with different concentrations were prepared with pure titanium dioxide, which were also determined by spectrophotometry, and a standard curve was drawn.

  5. The content of titanium dioxide in the samples was calculated by the standard curve method.

Beichao reminds you: this method is only applicable to the case of high content of titanium dioxide, if the content is low, pre-treatment is required, such as dissolution, concentration, extraction and other methods.
