Like our country, Japanese car repair painters use many types of putty scrapers, which are also constantly developing and changing. Wooden spatulas were commonly used in the past, and there are many types of wood, but hinoki is the most commonly used. The scraper used by the old painter was once made by himself, and the size and hardness were determined according to his own preferences. Nowadays, it is common to buy styling products and use them after a little polishing. The advantage of the wooden scraper is that you can adjust the softness and hardness according to your own preferences, but it is easy to break and chip. The shape and structure of the wooden scraper are shown in Figure 4-2-69.
Plastic scrapers come in various shapes, but commonly used plastic scrapers are shown in Figure 4-2-70. There are various widths of plastic scrapers, which should be selected according to the size of the scraping area. The advantage of this kind of scraper is that it is not easy to break like a wooden scraper and has a long service life. The hardness of the scraper can also be adjusted by grinding with sandpaper, so more and more plastic scrapers are used recently. (Related instrument: Ink adjusting knife)
Flexible rubber scrapers are also often used. The characteristic of this kind of scraper is that it is suitable for scraping and coating on curved surfaces. Works better than plastic and wooden spatulas when scraping curved surfaces. According to the shape of the curved surface of the car body, choosing to use a rubber scraper can make the scraping operation more reasonable. (Related instrument: Ink adjusting knife)
Plastic scrapers are also popular, as shown in Fig. 4-2-71. Metal scrapers are mainly suitable for mixing putty.
The mixing boards for putty include wood, iron, aluminum, glass, plastic, etc. The surface should be flat and smooth and not easily scratched, see Figure 4-2-72.
