Dry-film thickness measurement of conformal paint

Conformal paint is a kind of anti-corrosion, moisture-proof and anti-corrosion special coating, which is usually used in the protection of metal surfaces in harsh environments such as marine, coastal and high temperature and high humidity. Measuring the dry film thickness of the conformal coating is very important as it ensures the quality and protection of the coating. If the dry film thickness is too thin, the coating cannot provide sufficient protection, making the surface of the object vulnerable to mechanical wear, chemical corrosion, etc., thereby affecting the service life and performance of the object. However, if the dry film thickness is too thick, it will increase the cost of the coating and may cause problems such as cracking or peeling. Therefore, measuring the dry film thickness of the conformal coating can help ensure that the coating meets the design specifications and achieves a balance between coating quality and cost. In addition, if the dry film thickness is measured during painting, construction quality problems can be found in time and adjustments can be made to ensure the coating effect and service life.

Three anti-paint dry film thickness measurement with Figure 1

The coating Thickness Gauge can be used to measure the dry film thickness of the three anti-paints to ensure the coating quality and protection performance.

application

  • Measure the dry film thickness of the conformal coating to ensure the quality and protective performance of the coating.

  • Check coating thickness during application to ensure required specifications and requirements are met.

  • During routine maintenance and overhaul, check the remaining thickness of the conformal coating to assess its service life.

Steps

  1. Prepare the coating Thickness Gauge and calibrate it according to the operating manual.

  2. Clean the surface to be tested to ensure it is free of impurities or coating defects.

  3. Attach the sensor head of the coating Thickness Gauge to the surface to be measured, making sure it is parallel to the surface.

  4. Record the dry film thickness by reading the value on the display of the coating Thickness Gauge.

  5. According to actual needs, take multi-point measurement to obtain more accurate results.

  6. After the measurement, clean the coating Thickness Gauge and store the data.

Coating Thickness Gauges of different types and thicknesses may have different operating procedures and usage requirements, so the appropriate coating Thickness Gauge should be selected according to the specific coating type and thickness, and operated in accordance with the operation manual.
