3 Introduction to key points of inspection methods

3.1 Test Principle

Apply a certain thickness of coating film on the test panel, place the test panel vertically, and the coating is affected by gravity before drying, resulting in flow and fall, and the flow control property of the paint is measured by a Sag Tester. (Related instruments: Sag Tester)

3.2 Materials and equipment

Sag Tester: see Figure 1.

3.3 Operation points

Stir the sample thoroughly and place a sufficient amount of the sample in the opening in front of the paint scraper. Use 2-3s to complete the scraping. Immediately place the test panel after scraping the coating film vertically. When placed, the strip film should be horizontal and keep "thin at the top and thick at the bottom". After the coating film is dry, observe its flow control phenomenon. If the coating film of this thickness does not flow into the film of the next thickness, it means that the coating film of this thickness does not sag. The area within 20mm at both ends of the coating film is not counted. For example, as shown in Figure 2, the 1-5 coating film is non-sag, and the wet film thickness of the 5th is the non-sag reading.

3.4 Result presentation

The same sample is tested in parallel with two samples. The test results are expressed by the consistency of the maximum wet film thickness measured on two samples of the paint film without sagging (in microns). (Related instruments: wet film gauge)
