Measure the covering power by the "chess board" method

A method of measuring hiding power using a linoleum painted as a chessboard (self-colored and black squares), the principle of which is to determine the weight of paint required to completely cover a surface.

When testing this method, it is found that the surface of the varnished cloth is uneven and cannot completely fill the pores of the cloth surface, which are the reasons for the possible class difference; in addition, after a small number of measurements, the upper layer of the varnished cloth is worn out, The main reason for possible errors is that the paint layer painted with a brush cannot be used to remove the stripes on it with oil. (Related instrument: Opacity plate)

Determination of hiding power according to the "chessboard" method with Figure 1The absolute value obtained when testing the hiding power of the pigment with the "chessboard" method is much higher than the value obtained by other methods.

The test method can be described as follows. Divide a piece of white Chinese painting paper with a size of 200 x 200 mm into 16 small squares; among them, the eight squares distributed on the chess board are blackened with black ink. Tracing on cardboard, and the cardboard is pasted on plywood with dimensions of 200x200 mm, the side of the board is filled with scraping oil and putty, and painted with oil-based paint after dry operation.

On the surface of the "chess board" prepared according to the above method, use a paint sprayer l1 to remove three layers of transparent consumer-based paint. For the convenience of work, nail the chess board to a wooden tree with several pointed nails on it. The length of going out shall not be greater than half the thickness of the plywood (Fig. 15)

After diluting the polished paint to the construction consistency, use a brown brush to paint on each square, and then spread it on the entire board to form a uniform paint. The unevenness formed can be smoothed with a brush , and then check whether the color of the board is transparent. If the square (square) can be seen through the paint, the "chessboard" must be cleaned according to the above method. When the square (square) of the "chessboard" When the paint layer is no longer exposed, the test can be terminated. Before and after the test, the weight of the glass cup to measure the paint. The weight of paint used to cover the "chessboard" surface.
