Determination of oil absorption by co-grinding of pigments with oil
This method was developed by CB Yakubovich and MM Goliath Berg. The peculiarity of this method is that the pigment is ground while it is mixed with the oil (relevant instrument: Grinder). The test was carried out as follows. Pour 1 gram of oil on the board; weigh the pigment in any container (small phase, weighing bottle) (the amount should be slightly more than the expected amount). Add the pigment to the oil in small portions. Grind the mixture carefully with a pestle until a slurry forms.
As more pigment is added, the paste becomes thicker and thicker, from fluid to thick, and then begins to break down to form flakes. From this moment on, the pigments are added in smaller portions and I begin to stir without a pestle but with a Grinder, with which I first carefully scrape the pestle clean.
After each addition of paint, the flakes were stirred for a long time until it began to spread. Then weigh the combined weight of the container and the remaining pigment to determine the amount of pigment. Then calculate the oil absorption according to the formula listed above.
