Classification of paint film corrosion resistance test method and atmospheric test method

The classification of metal corrosion contact test method and atmospheric test method was proposed by Akimov. In the classification of paint film test methods, we have partially used the principles proposed by Akimov.

All the methods for testing the protective properties of coating films can be classified into two categories—corrosion resistance test methods and weather resistance test methods.

The first category includes various methods that can measure the water resistance and corrosion resistance of the coating film, as well as some of its weather resistance. The second category includes many tests where moisture, sunlight, and temperature variations are used as corrosion factors. When testing the protective properties of coatings, we are based on the principle that not every corrosion-resistant coating is weather-resistant, but any weather-resistant coating should have corrosion resistance to varying degrees. Each of the above two categories can be subdivided into two sub-categories: 1) laboratory (rapid) test methods and (2) test methods under natural conditions.

1. Test method for corrosion resistance of coating film

(1) Laboratory methods

1. Determination of porosity.

2. Determination of water swelling and water permeability.

3. Immersion test in electrolytic solution:

(1) Immersed in a fixed solution;

(2) Immersed in a flowing solution;

(3) Test under alternate immersion.

4. Test in a wet chamber:.

(1) Test of non-electrolytic spraying atmosphere;

(2) Test with electrolyte spray (rain and fog chamber).

5. Test in gaseous medium.

6. Determination of corrosion resistance:

(l) Volumetric determination of hydrogen evolution;

(2) Measured by the volume of oxygen absorbed.

7. Electrochemical test method:

(1) Measurement of electrode potential;

(2) Tests on the anode and cathode circuit diagrams on a partial battery model;

(3) Polarization method.

2. Test method under natural image

1) Test in soil.

2) Test in seawater, etc.

2. Test method of weather resistance of coating film

Quick Test Method (Laboratory Test Method)

1) A simple (non-automated) approach with no more than three variables.

2) Complex (automated) methods using three or more variable factors.
