Determination of percent solids

The solid content of the insulating varnish varies according to the variety, and the ratio of the mass of the residue after drying to the mass of the sample is determined by using different temperatures and heating times.


The following instruments are required for the determination of the solid content of insulating varnish :

(1) Blast constant temperature oven (2) Balance: Sensitivity 1mg; (3) Flat-bottomed aluminum dish and glass dish (4) Dryer


Method for determination of solid content of insulating varnish

(1) Heat the aluminum dish or glass dish in an oven at 135°C for half an hour in advance, cool it in a desiccator and load it

(2) Weigh 1.5-2.0g sample with a balance in the load-bearing dish, distribute it evenly on the bottom of the dish, and place it in the air for half an hour.

(3) Spin the sample dish horizontally in an oven that has been adjusted to the specified temperature, and the heating temperature and time are specified in the product standard

(4) The calculation formula of solid content is as follows:


 X=(m2-m)/(m1-m)*100%


Formula description:

X=solid content (%)

m=mass of dish (g)

m1 = mass of sample and dish before heating (g)

m2 = mass of sample and dish after heating (g)
