challenge

Malti Rugs was looking for a better way to control the color of the printing process. In the carpet industry, especially when making custom handmade rugs and rugs, getting the exact color your customers expect can be a challenge. Samples were checked frequently, requiring extra work by dye house workers when the color was wrong, and repeated sending of samples for client review, taking valuable time to get color approval. Worse, the finished carpet may be rejected because it did not meet the customer's expectations, a costly process for the carpet manufacturer and a major disappointment for the customer. Malti Rugs manufactures rugs for retailers worldwide in the home furnishings industry who have very specific requirements for color matching as the rugs need to coordinate with the rest of the customer's offering.

According to managing partner Nitin Baranwal, “Color matching during the dyeing process is difficult. Wool, being a natural fiber, does not pick up dyes consistently from batch to batch, and during the carpet manufacturing process, the entire length of the wool is not uniform. Density can also vary. We believe that with the right color measurement solution, we can ensure accurate color at the earliest possible stage, reducing finished product rejection rates, saving time and money, and increasing the productivity of the manufacturing process.” An important goal of the project was to be able to verify accurate color as early as possible in the production process to avoid costly rejections and customer dissatisfaction, reducing time to market. "In the high-end homewares retail industry," Baranwal added, "our competitors in India are limited, which means other exporters; we are looking for a competitive advantage that will put us in a professional position."

solution

Malti Rugs turned to X-Rite for a color measurement solution that could help address the company's unique requirements. The overall solution includes the following components:

Lighting Rooms with SpectraLight QC: Sometimes referred to as "Solidness and Appearance Zones," these custom-designed viewing rooms Accuracy is evaluated. These rooms have SpectraLight or Examolite lighting fixtures, ceiling and/or wall mounted and mobile stands, designed to provide good viewing conditions. The light room used by Malti Rugs was built to measure 10 x 12 feet to accommodate carpets up to 8 x 10 feet. Malti Rugs' light source chamber is equipped with 6 light sources.

Judge II: This is a small visual color evaluation system using a patented 7 phosphorescent paint design that provides a closer approximation to natural daylight under fluorescent light sources. Five different light sources are available: daylight (with a choice of D50 or D65), cool white fluorescent, incandescent, ultraviolet and a choice of U30, U35 or TL84. UV light sources can be used alone or in combination with other light sources for the detection and evaluation of optical brighteners, brighteners, or fluorescent dyes and pigments. The Judge II is suitable for use in a variety of workplaces such as offices, design studios and production areas. Malti Rugs uses the Judge II in the dye room for quick inspection of sample yarn hanks during dyeing and in the light room for comparison of yarn to approved color samples.
