What is the scratch test?

The scratch resistance test is mainly used to evaluate the scratch resistance performance of the coating of insulating color-coated boards. The test uses a steel needle of a certain weight to move slowly on the coating surface of the color-coated plate with a certain weight. If the steel needle plows through the coating, there will be conduction between the steel needle and the steel plate or steel strip. The chemical damage resistance of the color-coated plate coating is evaluated by the maximum load of the steel needle plowing through the coating under a certain weight.

The scratch resistance test usually uses two methods to define the scratch resistance of the coating. One method is to judge whether it passes under a fixed load. Another method is to gradually increase the weight of the load weight to repeat the test. until you find the maximum weight of weight that does not plow through the coating. In a three-way method, at least two passes of three test bells are used as the test result, and in the latter method, the arithmetic mean of the maximum weight loads of three different parts is used as the test result.
