Laboratory Chemical Safety Operation

1. Purpose

In order to ensure the personal safety of the staff, safe operation is carried out in the whole process of laboratory analysis.

2. Scope of application

Safe operation in the laboratory.

3. Responsibility

Laboratory technicians should strictly follow the operating procedures, and the QC supervisor is responsible for supervising the implementation of the procedures.

6. Procedures

6.1. Organic solvents should be stored in solvent rooms with ventilated and explosion-proof equipment, and low-boiling point flammable products can be stored in explosion-proof refrigerators. Highly toxic reagents should be stored in a safe and specially assigned for safekeeping, and reviewers should be present when using and taking them. See SOPSAF059, Management Measures for Highly Poisonous Drugs.

6.2. Open flame operation and electrical operation without explosion-proof devices are prohibited in the solvent room.

6.3. The operation of organic solvents should be carried out in a fume hood. If it is not suitable to be carried out in a fume hood, protective glasses and a gas mask should be worn. The mobile operation table can be placed near the fume hood to avoid the spread of pollution.

6.4. When dealing with strong acids, strong alkalis, and organic solvents, you should pay attention to protection, and wear rubber gloves and protective glasses.

6.5. When using electrical appliances, you should strictly follow the operating procedures. When using electric furnaces and high-temperature furnaces, it is strictly forbidden to operate with electricity.

6.6. Check the water, electricity and throttle before leaving get off work every day.

6.7. Laboratory safety protection equipment includes: emergency shower, eye puncher, fire extinguisher. The part-time safety officer set up by the department checks once a month whether the protective equipment is in normal condition.

6.8. Precautions for use of organic solvents, etc.

6.8.1 The main harmful effects of organic solvents on the human body: headache, fatigue, dizziness, anemia, and damage to the liver.

6.8.2 Emergency measures after the operator is poisoned:

Transfer the poisoned person directly to a well-ventilated place, promptly notify the environmental safety supervisor, and contact the emergency center.

Try to keep the body warm by putting the victim's head down, on their back, or on their back.

When the poisoned person loses consciousness, remove the foreign body in the mouth.

When the poisoned person stops breathing, give him artificial respiration quickly.
