The relationship between surface tension and Ink-jet ink development and printing

It is important to achieve comparative testing in inkjet development. By testing the dynamic surface tension , different properties can be analyzed, such as: wetting, drop size, penetration, drying and leveling ability.


Because the dynamic surface tension affects these factors, a tensiometer is needed to measure the dynamic surface tension , especially for dynamic time affecting the wetting process. A good repeatability is also required for successful R&D work.


 Inkjet inks have short wetting times, so activators are typically used to reduce surface tension as quickly as possible. With the surface tension chart of different inks on the SITA tensiometer T60/2, you can evaluate the importance of dynamic surface tension on wetting performance.


Static testing methods such as the platinum plate/ring method cannot be used for such evaluation checks because of the large time and cleaning costs.
