A: Yes, it is widely used as an anti-etch ingredient up to 75°C in various etchants including Potassium Hydroxide, Tetramethylammonium Hydroxide, EDP, Hafnium, Nitric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide.
Question 13: Are Apiezon greases suitable for oxygen environments (or liquid oxygen environments)?
Answer: Because hydrocarbon-based greases have a slight spontaneous combustion hazard, only PFPE 501 in the Apiezon range can be used under these conditions .
Question 14: Are Apiezon greases radiation resistant?
Answer: Apiezon L and M greases show some degree of radiation resistance, with only a relatively small increase in stiffness after irradiation with 4 MV electrons to a level of about 100 Mrad. The lubricating properties of the grease remained satisfactory after this exposure, and indeed after a higher degree of irradiation, although the stiffness increased more rapidly. With high levels of irradiation, small amounts of gases (mainly methane and ethylene) are gradually formed, so the grease loses its very low vapor pressure characteristics. Nonetheless, it is clear that Apiezon L and M greases perform much better than other high vacuum lubricants such as silicones, esters and halogenated products at high levels of irradiation.
