Determination of Bonding Strength of Hard Coating by Automatic Scratch meter

"Measuring the Bonding Strength of Hard Coatings with an Automatic Scratch Tester" was written by many scholars including Zhang Pingyu of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It introduces the experiment of using an automatic scratch Tester to measure the bonding strength of a hard coating. The automatic scratch Tester carried out the scratch test on the TiN and TiC coatings prepared by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition method, and studied the hardness of the substrate, coating thickness, coating hardness, loading rate, scratching speed and the distance between the scratch needle and the coating. The influence of factors such as friction conditions on the critical load that characterizes the bonding strength of the coating.

Test Conclusions:

1. The scratch test method is an effective method to measure the bonding strength of hard coatings.

2. The critical load of the hard coating increases with the hardness of the substrate and the coating; the coating has a good thickness value, and the critical load under this thickness is basically not affected; the scratch speed has no effect on the critical load; The critical load increases when the coating is covered with solid lubricant, but it has no effect on the critical load when covered with pure oil.
