Significant problems with coating hiding power occur in the yellow range, so the principle of using lemon yellow RAL 1012 is illustrated as an example. Table 4 compares automotive OEM paint and trim paint formulations with lead-containing formulations. In order to achieve the hiding power required for this hue, a relatively large amount of inorganic pigments (70%) is added, that is, the color saturation of RAL 1012 is not high. High-quality automotive paint formulations cost several times more than lead-based formulations, but lead-free and lead-containing paints are comparable in decorative paint. The advantage of high-quality lead-free formulations is better weather and chemical resistance. Table 4 RAL 1012 lemon yellow pigment formula and performance comparison.
