Discussion on the Difference of Light Fastness Test of Different Instruments

Different models of light fastness instruments will have different spectral energy transmitted by different filters. The results of the experiments caused the spectral energy to vary. The author of "Discussion on the Differences in Light Fastness Tests of Different Instruments" used two different light fastness meters with the same model parameters to try to measure the asynchronous fading of the sample dye color by the artificial light luminescence spectrum of the instrument, and use visual ratings and instruments Rating comparisons are discussed.

Laboratory equipment

Atlas Ci3000 Weather-Ometer light fastness meter, Q-Sun B02 light color fastness meter, Verivide cac120 standard light box, DATA COLOR600 Tester, AVANTES spectrum Detector.

standard material

Grade 1~5 SDC blue wool standard sample (developed in Europe); humidity control standard sample (in accordance with GB 730); gray sample card for evaluating discoloration (in accordance with GB/T 250—2009)

sample

Samples are selected from the daily testing samples.

Exposure parameters

Exposure end point: Expose the blue wool standard sample of grade 4 to grade 4 of the color difference of the gray sample card for evaluating discoloration.

Optical filter: Inner filter is quartz glass, outer filter is infrared coated soda lime glass and float glass.

Test Conclusions

a) The same test conditions and test time, because the filters of the two instruments are different, so the transmitted light spectrum is different. Although the standard blue label at the control exposure end point achieves standard fading, the fading of other non-target blue labels is not the same. Visual evaluation mainly focuses on the level of test fading, but other differences, such as asynchronous fading of dye colors, changes in saturation and hue, etc., these changes are difficult to evaluate visually. The influence of the spectrum on color cannot be simply attributed to the lightening of the color.

b) Compared with the ATLAS instrument, the Q-SUN instrument test level 4 blue standard can reduce the test time. The Q-SUN instrument test has a relatively high identical rate with the ATLAS instrument test results in the pure cotton sample test. However, due to the different spectra, the two test results cannot be interchanged.
