Metal foil surface cleanliness detection

Test Instrument: SITA CleanoSpector (SITA Surface Cleanliness Tester)

Test Mode: Fluorescence Level

Sample: Metal foil (emulsion)

            Metal foil (coil)

            Foil (cleaned)

Purpose

Fluorescent testing with the SITA CleanoSpector to measure the cleanliness of metal foils.

SITA CleanoSpector reading modes

The SITA CleanoSpector will have 2 different reading modes. The first readout mode "cleanliness" is a percentage and shows the sample surface cleanliness as a percentage of the cleanliness value of a satisfactorily clean calibrator. The second readout mode is FluoLevel, which is relative fluorescence intensity, and its unit is RFU. The higher the RFU value, the stronger the surface is contaminated by fluorescent substances. This test report uses the FluoLevel mode to detect the cleanliness of the metal foil.

Test Results

A piece of metal foil was selected from each sample for the fluorescent cleanliness test. Select 20 different measuring points on the sample foil, carry out the surface cleanliness test and obtain the average value. For comparison, a sample foil was measured for its cleanliness value after a precision cleaning with the alkaline cleaner SurTec 151.

The results of the fluorescence test are shown in FIG. 1 . The values of the measurement results for all measurement points are listed in the appendix.

evaluate

The samples soaked in the emulsion had significantly higher fluorescence values than the samples not soaked in the emulsion. This means that the emulsion is fluorescent and can be detected by using the SITA CleanoSpector. A metal surface in a satisfactory state of cleanliness typically has a fluorescence value of 1 RFU. The fluorescence value of the sample foil after intensive cleaning was 0.7 RFU.
