Determination of Viscosity of Methyl Vulcanized Silicone Rubber at Room Temperature by Cone and Plate Viscometer

As an old variety of general-purpose silicone rubber, methyl room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (107 rubber) has the advantages of water resistance, ozone resistance, arc resistance, corona resistance and weather aging resistance. Dynamic viscosity is an important quality index of 107 glue. In the past, Rotational Viscometers were mainly used to measure the viscosity of 107 adhesives. However, due to the determination of 107 adhesive viscosity by Rotational Viscometers, there are disadvantages such as many samples required, long constant temperature time, and long viscosity detection time.

Therefore, the author of "Measurement of Viscosity of Methyl Vulcanized Silicone Rubber at Room Temperature by Cone and Plate Viscometer" proposes that the use of cone and plate viscometer instead of Rotational Viscometer to detect the viscosity of 107 glue can improve the detection efficiency, accuracy and repeatability. Brookfield CAP2000+L cone-plate viscometer and Nanjing Xianou NDJ-8S single-cylinder Rotational Viscometer were used to detect the viscosity of 107 glue respectively, and a comparative analysis was carried out.

Experimental conclusion: the detection of the viscosity of 107 glue by the cone-plate viscometer can greatly shorten the detection time, and the data can be fed back to the workshop in time to guide the production. Reduce the sampling volume from 250mL to 30mL, reduce the sampling volume by about 40L per month, reduce waste ; simplify the detection method to reduce errors caused by human factors; improve the detection accuracy, thus providing a reference for the detection of 107 glue.
