Actual spread rates will vary due to various factors. Therefore, it is not possible to provide general exact data in product data sheets. Actual coverage is calculated by multiplying the theoretical coverage by the estimated loss factor using the following formula:
Actual spreading rate = theoretical spreading rate × (1- loss %)
For example, a high build epoxy coating with a volume solids content of 80% requires a dry film thickness of 200µ.m, please calculate the theoretical coverage. If the loss reaches 30% when using airless spray, calculate its actual coating rate.
Theoretical spreading rate = (volume solids × 10) / dry film thickness = 800/200 = 4. 0 (m 2 /L)
