All Elcometer 456 probes are fully interchangeable and are available in a large range of designs and scales to suit customers' specific application requirements.

Ferrous probes measure the thickness of non-magnetic coatings on ferromagnetic substrates. Elcometer 456 Ferrous instruments accept any ferrous probe. Non-ferrous probes measure the thickness of non-conductive coatings on non-ferrous metal substrates and the Elcometer 456 Non-Ferrous category instruments accept any non-ferrous probe. The dual-purpose FNF probe can be used for both ferrous and non-ferrous applications, with automatic matrix recognition. Elcometer 456 FNF category instruments accept all ferrous, non-ferrous and dual purpose FNF probes.
Elcometer probes have a maximum operating temperature of 80°C (176°F) except 150°C (300°F) for the two-piece ferrous probes and 250°C (480°F) for the high-temperature PINIP. The specified temperature is the substrate temperature and the duty cycle of the probe needs to be reduced to ensure a minimum temperature build-up within the probe.
All Elcometer probes are supplied with a certificate of examination and a set of calibration diaphragms suitable for the scale range of the probe.
