TQC Micrometer Film Applicator Operation Manual

TQC Adjustable Film Applicator Operation Manual with Figure 1

Preparation

Before use, check the zero setting of the micrometer. Place applicator on a polished granite block or appropriately sized plate glass. Set the micrometer to zero. When the applicator is placed between the viewer and the bright light, the blade should touch the glass from end to end without the side panels rising. The zero point should be checked within 12 µm. If not, and need to be set, simply set the micrometer to zero, loosen the mic clamp set screw, press the blade down on the glass plate, press the micrometer down until the barrel rests against the blade, and tighten the clamp.

take measurements

• When working manually, make sure there is a flat surface on which to place the test piece (ie, surface plate, surface platform, or glass plate). This Micron Film Applicator fits TQC Sheen's Automatic Film Applicator Standard and Compact.

• Set the micrometer tip to the desired wet film thickness (maximum wet film thickness is 9mm). The increments on the micrometer head are 10 µm (0.01 mm). Hold the blade against the micrometer head by carefully moving the blade 2-3 mm away from the micrometer head and releasing it, and watch the blade snap into the anvil of the micrometer head.

• Place the applicator on the sample, taking care not to move the micrometer adjustment.

• Add the medium to be applied in front of the blade and pull the applicator lightly/firmly along the test piece, or operate the automatic applicator.

• Remove applicator from specimen and wipe media from blade.

calibration

We recommend annual calibration. For calibration, please send the instrument together with the RMA form* to TQC Sheen, Molenbaan 19, 2908 LL Capelle aan den IJssel, IJssel, The Netherlands.

maintainance

• Remove the blade from the applicator by loosening and removing the two thru-spring end thumbscrews. The blade is now ready to be washed.

• With the blade removed, the grooves of the blade in the applicator and applicator feet can now be cleaned.

• To replace the blade in the applicator, insert the two thumbscrews through the loops at the end of the spring and tighten the screws.

• Check that the blade engages the micrometer anvil.

• After cleaning, the micrometer spindle needs to be treated with WD40 or equivalent dehumidifier/lubricant to prevent corrosion and maintain free and smooth operation of the micrometer head.
