"The Bluetooth water level logger MX2001 and the mobile app are a huge convenience because we can access the data from 100 feet away, saving us a lot of time and avoiding the need to physically traverse any fences," Cameron said. "Furthermore, we did not leave the logger out of the tube, which was plugged into the device to upload the data, which could have changed the depth of the location, resulting in inconsistent data. So, in this regard, it is plausible that Bluetooth functionality was key to securing the data."
The Bluetooth capability also provides for easy installation and setup, allowing researchers to quickly calibrate the logger and confirm functionality, Cameron said.
After a full year of monitoring, Kjolhaug will analyze the trend data, prepare the first annual report, and present the results. The annual report will assess any hydrologically related impacts during and after the wetland's development, using pre-development conditions as a point of reference.
"An important aspect of these data loggers is that they make very accurate data," Cameron said. "Compared to other methods of data collection, which may be less reliable, HOBO loggers provide concrete evidence, eliminating the need for a good professional judgment. This type of data is invaluable in helping to overcome any uncertainty that may arise sex in the minds of regulators."
