Building Energy Saving Wireless Energy Monitoring - RX3003 Wireless Energy Monitoring

ONSET and technology partner northwrite, Inc. have delivered a real-time energy monitoring solution integrated to monitor building commissioning programs funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The program, designed to test innovative energy-efficiency services for buildings Northwrite, includes tracking of building electrical usage throughout 20 commercial buildings throughout New York.

As data collection for this project. A 15-channel monitoring unit, which can run on solar or electricity, has been installed in buildings to collect information on real-time usage of electricity and in some cases, steam and gas.

Jim Erickson, Northwrite's project manager for the implementation, said ONSET monitoring hardware was particularly suitable for the New York pilot because it was rugged, easy to install, scalable, and remotely accessible via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular connections. "We needed to get everything on site and set it up quickly without a lot of wrangling or holding hands. We were able to use the HOBO U30 wireless monitoring system," says Erickson.

The information is fed into NorthWrite MBCX software, which models it with other important inputs such as utility rates, weather and building characteristics. The results of analyst studies, and recommendations for building owners or managers, for low-cost or no-cost energy upgrades that would result in annual savings of 10% to 15%. Northwrite also connects building managers with NYSERDA-approved contractors who can make building improvements.
