Instrument functions are divided into two sections: Applications and Settings. The application settings are initially selected via softkeys A and B. Setup functions such as backlight, sound, calibration and alarm settings, etc. are adjusted through options. Many screens have a 2 second timeout, returning to the main screen if no other keys are pressed within that time period.

turn on
To turn TIGER on, press the Enter/On/Key once. The splash screen 1 with the TIGER logo will be displayed. Splash Screen 2 contains variable text sent from the TIGER PC configuration screen. The lower half of the screen contains the instrument IRN (Internal Reference Number) and firmware version. The third screen shows that the TIGER check light is on. When "Normal" is displayed, the work screen will then be displayed. If the light fails to come on, turn off TIGER, wait 30 seconds and try again. If problem persists, replace lamp, or contact Ion Science Ltd or your distributor.
closure
To turn TIGER off, press and hold the Enter/On/Key. The instrument starts a 3-second countdown and then turns off. During this countdown, the instrument activates the high alarm, i.e. the red LED flashes and the alarm sounds. This is to alert the user to avoid accidentally turning off the instrument.
sleep mode
Press and hold the Zzz softkey to put the TIGER into sleep mode. There will be a 3-second countdown before entering sleep mode. This function cannot be used when the instrument is locked . All peripheral functions will be turned off, only Zzz will still be displayed on the screen. Press the Esc key to wake up the instrument. (If there is more than 2 minutes between recordings, the instrument may also go into "sleep mode" during this time. This is a power saving feature and needs to be activated by ticking the box in the TIGER PC .)
return to zero
Press the Zero soft key and two zero options will be displayed, which can be selected using the Up or Down keys. The above symbol indicates absolute zero. The symbol below represents the relative zero point, which varies according to the drift of the PID Detector. When you're done making your selection, press Esc. If relative zero is selected , the TIGER will return to zero before returning to the main screen.
area
Press the Area softkey to display the currently selected area: . The default selection for TIGER is "Zone 1". Zones can only be created in TIGER PC and the given zone name will be displayed in the screen. Additional fields can be selected using the Up and Down keys.
Single data record (optional)
Press the Single Datalog softkey to record a datalog reading. A single data record symbol with a tick mark is displayed: . Press Esc to return to the main screen. Press the Single Datalog softkey again to take another reading. The fixed LCD memory .
Multiple data records (optional)
Press the Multiple Data Record softkey, the multiple record symbol with a question mark will be displayed: . Press the Enter key to start the data logging process according to the settings in the TIGER PC . A tick will appear next to the question mark, confirming that data logging has started. During continuous data logging, the fixed LCD memory icon blinks at 1 Hz. Press Esc to return to the main screen. To stop data logging, press the softkey again. A crossed out data record symbol with a question mark . Press the Enter key to confirm the operation. A tick will appear next to the question mark, confirming that data logging has stopped and the LCD memory symbol will stop flashing. Press Esc to return to the main screen
Health and Safety (Optional)
Pressing the Health & Safety softkey will display a health and safety symbol with a question mark asking the user if they want to continue: . Press the Enter key to start the calculation. The STEL (short-term exposure level) and TWA (time-accumulated average concentration) values are then displayed. During the calculation, the fixed LCD health and safety symbol will keep flashing. When the value is displayed, pressing the Enter key will display a screen asking the user if they want to stop the calculation. Press the Enter key again to stop the calculation. Press Esc to return to the main screen. If a gas is not assigned a STEL and TWA level in the gas table, the following symbol will be displayed: .
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: TIGER STEL.
When TIGER calculates STEL for 15 minutes, the instrument will display STEL real-time calculation value. This live calculation is for indicative purposes only and is intended to allow the user to observe the calculation as it is being performed. Only the final reading at the end of the calculation is recorded by the instrument for user reference.
gas selection
Pressing the gas selection softkey will display alpha characters which can be changed using the up and down keys: . Press enter and the gases beginning with that letter will be displayed . Use the UP and DOWN keys to scroll through the gases beginning with that letter to find the gas of interest. Press the Enter key to confirm the gas selection . Once the check mark is displayed, press the Enter key again and TIGER will use the relevant data If the selected gas does not have a numerical response factor, a warning screen will be displayed. To clear the message, press the Enter key, the gas will still be selected, but another lamp type may need to be selected to match the selected gas. If the selected gas/lamp combination is not compatible, the instrument will display the warning screen again.
peak hold
Press the Peak Hold soft key, and the screen will be displayed. When the Peak Hold function is selected, a subscreen will be displayed in which the peak reading will continue to be displayed until Peak Hold is no longer required. To deselect the peak hold function, press Esc.
average value
Press the Average soft key and the 10-second moving average will be displayed. A tick will appear when the time is up. Pressing the Average softkey again will reset the calculation, regardless of whether an average calculation is running or not. Press Esc to return to the main screen.
silent mode
When selected, all audible and visual alerts are disabled and only the alert indicator is displayed on the screen. This feature avoids causing panic in public places.
options
Pressing the OPTIONS soft key provides access to various adjustable functions, each option can be selected using the UP and DOWN keys. Press Enter to confirm selection.
backlight
There are four options: "Permanently Off", "Permanently On", "On when the ambient light is low" and "Timer" (time can be set in TIGER PC). Use the Up and Down keys to select the preferred option and Enter to confirm.
sound
Sound options appear as settings in TIGER PC. Use the DOWN ARROW to select keypad beeps, sirens, increasing volume, or volume percentage. Press Enter to toggle selection on or off. To set the volume percentage, press Enter again to confirm the selection. The border will blink. Use the Up and Down keys to change the volume percentage and press Enter to confirm the selected value. Press Esc twice to return to the main screen.
calibration
Only two options are available: factory calibration and custom calibration. Use the Up and Down keys to select the preferred option and Enter to confirm. Regardless of which calibration standard is selected , the TIGER will operate against that calibration. If the calibration is not satisfactory, the readings on which it is based will not be reliable.
Factory calibration is not intended for operator use.
The user can run the instrument with the factory calibration values, but the actual calibration operation cannot be performed by the user. Please return the instrument to Ion Science Ltd or your distributor for calibration. (see Maintenance section on page 37 of this manual)

alarm
Displays the upper and lower alarm settings. Use the Up and Down keys to select the target alarm and press Enter to confirm. The arrow on the selected alarm will flash. Use the Up and Down keys to adjust the alarm level and press Enter to confirm. Select other . Press Esc twice to return to the main screen.
NOTE: The low alarm setting cannot be greater than the high alarm.
unit
Use the Up and Down keys to select the available units and press Enter to confirm. Light Use the Up and Down keys to select the type of light, then press Enter to confirm.
information
Press the Info softkey to access a number of other info screens. Use the down key to scroll through the screen. Press Esc to return to the main screen:
