This paper mainly introduces the error analysis and comparison of the Lie pycnometer method and the Gann pycnometer method for measuring powder density. The error response is relatively large. Even if a super constant temperature Water Bath is used, the measurement error still cannot reach the standard range. The Ergan's pycnometer method has a relatively small temperature error, does not require advanced equipment, and is less difficult to operate. Therefore, it is recommended to use the Gann pycnometer to measure the density of the material powder in the drilling fluid such as barite powder. In order to reduce the measurement error, it is necessary to calibrate the scale of the Lee's pycnometer before the experiment, and before measuring with the campycnometer, it is recommended to select an appropriate sample amount through error analysis.
