QNix for heavy duty corrosion protection
Displays two coating thickness measurements
Modern coating materials effectively protect against corrosion, especially when applied in multiple layers. Protect critical steel structures such as bridges and offshore structures with a double-sided coating system based on hot-dip galvanizing and 2K epoxy coating.
The combined measurement mode of the QNix® 8500 can measure hot-dip galvanized coatings and epoxy-based coatings on steel substrates in one measurement. The device then displays the thickness of the zinc and paint layers as separate values (minimum zinc coating thickness: 50 μm).
Measurement data processing and documentation via Excel
In order to perform and monitor coating work, systematic procedures and work documents are required. To verify the individual layers of the coating system, the user can define control surfaces according to the object size. A defined number of measurements need to be performed on these surfaces.
Using QNix® software and a USB radio adapter, users can wirelessly transmit coating thickness measurements to a PC and export them to Excel. This enables them to record and process results quickly, reliably and conveniently.
Reliable coating thickness measurement on rough surfaces
Surface roughening improves the adhesion of the coating system and is one of the important steps in the preparation for heavy-duty corrosion protection. However, the surface topography of the base substrate affects the accuracy of the measurement results. If the device cannot compensate for roughness, it indicates that the layer is thicker than it actually is. When working with rough substrate surfaces, you can use as many reference measurements as you need to calculate and store an average zero reference value.
In addition to the (immutable) factory calibration, the QNix® 8500 supports two calibration procedures that can be used to compensate for roughness:
Single-point calibration compensates for roughness of the target layer thickness.
Two-point calibration compensates for roughness over a range of layer thicknesses.
