In production, the refining depth of lubricating oil can be judged from the viscosity change. Usually: the viscosity of unrefined distillate oil > the viscosity of distillate oil refined by sulfuric acid > the viscosity of distillate oil refined with selected solvents.


1. Significance of viscosity to lubricating oil


Viscosity is the most important quality index of lubricating oil, so choose lubricating oil with a certain viscosity correctly. It can ensure the stable and reliable working condition of the engine. As the viscosity increases, the power of the engine will be reduced and the fuel consumption will be increased. If the age is too large, it will cause difficulty in starting; if the age is too small, the supporting capacity of the oil film will be reduced, so that a continuous lubricating layer cannot be maintained between the friction surfaces, and wear will increase. Most of the grades of lubricating oils are divided by the average value of kinematic viscosity in product standards. Such as: refrigeration oil, mechanical oil, etc., divided by the average centistoke number of kinematic viscosity at 50 degrees; Viscosity plays an important role in the delivery of lubricants. As the viscosity of the oil increases, the delivery pressure must increase.

The quality of fuel atomization is one of the important conditions for the normal operation of a jet engine. The viscosity of jet fuel has a great influence on the degree of fuel atomization. In order to ensure the necessary atomization degree of jet engine at different temperatures, the viscosity values ​​at different temperatures are stipulated in the fuel specification standard.


3. Significance of viscosity to diesel


Viscosity is one of the important properties of diesel, which can determine the atomization and combustion of diesel in the internal combustion engine. If the viscosity is too high, the oil droplets ejected from the injector are large and uneven, the atomization state is not good, the mixing with air is insufficient, and the combustion is incomplete. At the same time, diesel oil can lubricate the plunger pump, and if the viscosity is too small, it will affect the lubrication of the oil pump and increase the wear of the plunger.
