Carbon monoxide Detector installation skills

Every level of the home, including the basement, needs to have at least one carbon monoxide Detector. You'll also want to consider adding Detectors after they've been hooked up in the garage. REMEMBER: Install carbon monoxide Detectors directly inside or outside of every bedroom or sleeping area. The effects of carbon monoxide are barely detectable while sleeping. If CO is detected, the alarm will sound the alarm and wake you up. Here are a few things to keep in mind when installing a carbon monoxide Detector in your home.

  • Before installing, check to make sure the Detector is recognized by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to meet stringent testing and safety requirements

  • Read the manual for your carbon monoxide Detector before setting it up properly.

  • Install CO Detectors at least 15-20 feet away from gas-fired household appliances, including stoves, dryers, and furnaces

  • Install a CO Detector within 10 feet of the garage if it is connected to the home

  • If possible, wire up multiple Detectors so that when one detects carbon monoxide all alarms go off

  • Do not install Detectors

  • Near any natural gas or fossil fuel area to avoid false CO detection

  • in damp or damp places, including bathrooms

  • May overheat in direct sunlight

  • Keep out of reach of children to avoid easy tampering or damage

  • near a window or in a windy area

  • Behind doors, cabinets, curtains or other areas to prevent CO detection
