Regular calibration ensures that the accuracy of the scale is maintained over time. If you need to keep track of calibrations, it would be beneficial to have this feature without the added expense and inconvenience of calibration quality alone. Traditionally, a series of certified and traceable calibration masses are used to check the accuracy of the scale and adjust the mechanism if necessary.

Internal calibration is a feature of newer balances that uses an internal mechanism or circuit to load the balance with a prescribed weight to check and adjust the calibration. Calibration checks and adjustments can be documented in quality control documentation.
