Spraying technology is a key element in achieving a high finish and using your material as efficiently as possible. When it comes to getting a great coat of paint and an effective spray on any surface, there is a very good practice called "taping". Banding is a technique that reduces overspray and saves material while ensuring your hands get good, even coverage. There are two types of strapping techniques: "panel strapping" and "edge strapping".
Panel strips are used when you are coating flat, rectangular panels or objects. The first four strokes of the gun should cover the border of the side you are facing. You should use one stroke in the direction of each edge; then cover the rest of the center using the traditional level pass technique. Think of a coloring book, when you were a kid you used to trace the edges of a picture and then shade in the middle. Essentially, this is the same technique applied in panel binding. This is a much more effective spraying technique than just using a level pass to try and cover the edges and improve the quality of the paint finish and reduce material waste.
"Sideband" is used when it is on the outside edge of a part, such as a table or box. Spray the outside corners and edges first; for example, on a table, this would be the outside edge. This edge works by "tabbing" the top and bottom surfaces so that everything you need to do covers the center surface.
Effective spraying and smoothing of professional paint is easy with practice and time using this technique.
