pH Electrode Routine Maintenance Guide

You can use soapy water to clean the obvious pollutants on the diaphragm and sensitive membrane of the pH electrode. You can use acetone and alcohol to clean the grease pollution (soak the electrode for a few seconds). After cleaning, soak the electrode with a special maintenance solution before calibrating.

Hamilton provides special pH electrode cleaning and maintenance solutions:

Special cleaning solution A, the main component is <3% NaOH solution

Special cleaning solution B, the main component is 4% HCl solution

Special maintenance solution, the main component is a slightly acidic solution of 3M KCl

Recommended cleaning and maintenance procedures:

Soak in special cleaning solution A for 5-30 minutes;

Soak in special cleaning solution B for 5-30 minutes;

Soak in special maintenance solution for 30-60 minutes;

After rinsing the electrode with clean water, it can be used for calibration and measurement.

-pH Electrode Storage Guide-

When storing the electrode, the electrode protection cap should be put on, and a special maintenance solution should be added to the electrode protection cap;

The pH electrode can also be stored in an aqueous solution with a pH of 2~9, but it will slightly affect the overall life of the pH electrode;

It is not recommended to store the pH electrode in a strong alkaline solution for a long time, which will cause the passivation of the electrode sensitive membrane;

Drying the pH electrode for a long time will not damage the electrode, but it will cause the electrode to drift during measurement. Soaking it in the maintenance solution will restore the performance of the dry-putting electrode;
