Netherlands TQC SP1570 Copy Tape Tester Operation Manual

TQC Replica Tape Tester is a high-precision film and foil Thickness Gauge, which is specially developed for measuring so-called "replica tape", mainly for measuring surface profile.

The large, clear display makes readings easy to read in all conditions. Values can be displayed in microns or inches.

In order to better reduce the influence of body temperature/hand temperature, the manometer is installed separately from the bracket.

Preparation before the test

1) Select the appropriate grade of Press-O-Film duplicating tape Testex-tape X-COARSE (range 1.5 to 4.5 mil/40 to 115 μm), Testex-tape COARSE (range: 0.8 to 2.0 mil/20 to 50 μm).

2) Prepare the SP1570 Replica Tape Tester. Make sure the anvil is clean. Dust can only be wiped off with a clean dry towel, do not wash with water or solvents, and do not perform mechanical cleaning.

How to use it

1. Find a representative measurement location.

2. Turn on the pressure gauge (ON / OFF -5-).

3. Select the appropriate parameters (mm / inch -9-).

4. Zero (-6-) gauge

5. Pull a piece of adhesive-backed printing paper from the release paper. Press-O-Film is a 0.4 inch (1 cm) square of white plastic film centered on an adhesive-backed paper. A circle of paper should remain on the release paper.

6. Apply the film on the surface to be measured. Adhesive backed paper holds it securely in place.

7. Using moderate to firm pressure, rub the polishing tool across the circular cutout portion of the duplication tape. Use the smoothest surface on the rubbing tool. Satisfactory pressure is applied in a circular or frictional motion in the x and y directions. Compress all parts of the film, but be careful not to overhang the edge of the circular cutout hole and allow the film to slide against the surface. Duplicate tape will darken as the surface is duplicated. Make sure the entire circular area is evenly darkened.

8. Take the replica and place it (by lightly pressing the lever -8-) centered between the anvils (-2-, -3-). Press the lever (-8-) lightly to place the anvil on the Press-O-Film. Subtract 2 mm or 0.05 mm or 50 microns from the gauge reading (thickness of incompressible substrate). The resulting number is the average peak-to-valley height (Rave) of the blasted surface.

9. Verify that the reading is within the recommended range for the tape. The tape is accurate in the mid-range region. If the measured profile is near the upper or lower end of the tape range, confirm the reading at a level that better fits the profile being observed. By moving the replica tape slightly (releasing the anvil), verification measurements can be made.

Calibration method

We recommend annual calibration. For calibration, please send the instrument to TQC along with the RMA form*.

Maintenance

  • Despite its robust design, this instrument is precision machined. Never drop or fall

  • Be sure to clean the SP1570 Duplicate Tape Tester after use.

  • Clean the instrument with a soft dry cloth. Never use any mechanical means such as wire brushes or sandpaper to clean the instrument. Like using aggressive cleaners, this can cause permanent damage.

  • Always keep the instrument in its case when not in use.

  • We recommend annual calibration.
