How to choose a good centrifuge?

When a customer tells you that he or she wants to buy a set of centrifuges, you can usually ask the user the following questions:

1. Application field, laboratory, hospital, blood bank or others

2. The capacity you need

3. How many test tubes do you want to test at one time

We can then move on to choosing a centrifuge, we often find that people still have a lot of questions about which centrifuge model is right for their needs. This is not surprising given the sheer number of laboratory centrifuges available on the market today.

To help simplify the process, we've broken down five easy-to-use tips for choosing a centrifuge that will make your life in the lab easier while reducing run time and speeding up lab workflow.

1) The skill of choosing the centrifuge RPM is very important. Traditionally, when it came time to select a centrifuge, RPM was used as the main selection criterion. While this information is useful, it doesn't always tell the whole story. To ensure the correct centrifuge is selected, consider the G-Force required for your sample. These data can more accurately describe your needs and will help you choose the right centrifuge for your laboratory.

2) Applicability is key. Rarely do we see one lab fits all, which means your colleagues will need access to a centrifuge too, or today's workflow will not be the same as tomorrow's. Take the time to determine your centrifuge options, and the wide range of rotors available that are also easy to switch, and enjoy the variety a centrifuge can accept in terms of tube sizes.

3) Consider the space available in the lab. All the bells and whistles won't help you if you don't have the space to handle a floor standing centrifuge. The good news is that there are many desktops available today that can give you a lot of speed and power without taking up too much room in your lab.

4) Ease of operation. At the end of the day, a centrifuge has such a short lifespan that you spend a lot of time thinking about it. Make life easy for your lab staff with a centrifuge that offers intuitive controls and an easy-to-operate control panel. Take advantage of industry tools. Be sure and have all the information you need to make your selection and choose the right centrifuge for you!
