Test principle of coating scrub resistance

It is a measure of the relative abrasion resistance of a coating when it is repeatedly washed to remove contaminants during use. For architectural coatings, especially interior wall paints, the parts near doors, windows, etc. are often easily stained. It needs to be scrubbed frequently, so the scrub resistance has become a very important assessment index for these paints.

Coating scrub resistance test principle with Figure 1

my country's national standard "GB/T 9266-88 Architectural Coating Scrub Resistance" stipulates that a scrub test machine should be used for testing. After the test panel is fixed with clips, use a bristle brush to rub back and forth on the surface of the paint film at a fixed reciprocating frequency per minute, while continuously adding detergent. The test continues until the bottom of the paint film is exposed, or according to the number of times specified in the product standard. For exterior wall paint, 0.5% soap is generally used in CHINA, and 1000 times is the qualified index, while interior wall paint varies from dozens to hundreds of times according to different varieties. The washing machine can use one test head or two test heads, so as to compare the scrubbing resistance of the two .
