① There are generally two kinds of scraper instruments: single-slot type and double-slot type. The scale generally has three types: 25 microns, 50 microns and 100 microns. At present, CHINA's ink industry generally adopts 50 microns, and most of the world adopts double-slot 25 micron scales.
The conversion relationship between the scale of the Hegman Fineness Meter used in Europe and the conversion relationship between microns and mils can be seen in the figure below. It can be seen that the number of Hegmans is inversely proportional to them.

② Our country is currently using oil dilution method to determine the fineness of ink. Some countries in the world use ink for direct measurement (that is, no diluted oil is added to the ink). In this way, when scraping the ink, the coarse particles in the ink will be scraped into strip scratches by the scraper. Some people have proposed many different reading methods according to the position and number of these scratches. One of them is: first read the starting point readings of four coarse scratches and the starting point of ten scratches. The higher the readings of the two, the thicker the ink particles; the larger the difference between the two, the wider the range of the largest particles.
③The ink needs to be blended evenly when it is diluted with oil, but do not use excessive force, so as not to produce grinding effect and make the result inaccurate. At the same time, care should be taken to prevent dust from falling.
④ When holding the scraper with both hands horizontally on the scraper, do not use too much force, but also avoid being too light. Not to mention one side.
⑤ Regarding the calculation of fineness, the current habit in our country is to observe the value of densely packed particles. That is, when there are more than 15 particles in a scale range, it is counted as the value on the scale, and if there are no more than 15 particles in this scale range, it is counted as the value on the lower scale.

The calculation and judgment of fineness concentration points can be seen in the figure. The arrow in the figure refers to the concentration point scale number of fineness. The scratches of coarse particles can also be seen from the figure. The coarser the particles, the more the scratches appear on the soil edge.
⑥The various tools used to measure the thickness should be wiped with a clean soft cloth or cotton yarn. Especially the scraper and scraper should not be scratched or damaged.
