Are Shore Hardness Testers and rubber Hardness Testers the same? What is the difference?

The Shore durometer can be used to test the hardness of rubber, so some users will call the Shore durometer the rubber durometer, which is actually one-sided. The Shore durometer and the rubber durometer are intersecting, but not equivalent.

First, the Shore Hardness Tester is also called the Shore Hardness Tester. It is the most common rubber Hardness Tester used at home and abroad, because its host part is small in size, easy to carry, easy to use, and can be equipped with The special bracket can be used as a desktop computer in the laboratory, and can also be used as a portable instrument to measure larger workpieces on site. Therefore, the Shore Hardness Tester is currently the choice of most customers in rubber hardness testing. Of course, another reason is that its price is relatively cheap, and it does not require high procurement costs for enterprises, which is also one of the reasons for its adoption.

Are Shore Durometer and Rubber Durometer the same? What's the difference? Picture 1

According to our Chinese standard GB/T531.1-2008, Shore durometer mainly includes Shore A, Shore D, AM type (thin rubber durometer), and AO type (low hardness Shore durometer). Among them, the model of Shao A that is most used in our country is LX-A, and the model of Shao D is LX-D. Both of these two belong to the dial pointer type Shore Hardness Tester. Because of their simple structure and convenient operation and reading, they are often used by users. use.

According to the American Standard ASTM D2240 standard, Shore Hardness Testers are mainly divided into Shore A, D, E, O, AO, OO, OOO and other models. Due to the difference in material composition and vulcanized rubber production and processing technology, there are many kinds of rubber materials or rubber products with different softness and hardness. For example, OO type is mainly used to measure the hardness of soft rubber materials, also known as OO type or 00 type soft rubber Hardness Tester, like many soft silicone materials, should be measured with OO-type Shore Hardness Tester. For example, the simulated artificial skin used in the medical device industry is a very soft silicone material, and OO or OOO is also required.

Also, some manufacturers that produce foam soles need to use softer OOO or OOO-S Shore durometers for measurement. However, the most commonly used types in daily life are LX-A Shore Hardness Tester and LX-D Shore Hardness Tester. LX-A is mainly used to measure elastic soft rubber bodies, such as automobile tires, silicone, Wire and cable, sealing ring, O-ring hardness, etc., LX-D is mainly used to measure relatively hard rubber or plastic products with no elasticity on the surface, such as: polymer materials, resin materials, PVC, plastics, fan blades, hard colloids, etc. .

From the above introduction, we can see that the Shore Hardness Tester can measure the hardness of rubber and other materials such as plastics, so this statement is relatively one-sided. In fact, the rubber Hardness Tester also has a testing instrument called International Rubber Hardness Tester, also known as IRHD International Rubber Hardness Tester or IRHD Rubber International Hardness Tester, is also a commonly used Tester for measuring rubber hardness. The standard implemented by this Hardness Tester is GB/T6031-2017, which is completely different from the Shore Hardness Tester, and the test method is also very different.
