Phenolic resin paint

Phenolic resin paint (code F) is a paint with phenolic resin as the main film-forming substance. It is characterized by fast drying, high hardness, water resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance, but it is brittle and prone to yellowing, so it is not suitable for white paint. This kind of paint accounts for about 20% of CHINA's paint production. According to the type of resin, it is divided into the following four categories:

(1) Alcohol-soluble phenolic resin coating

This kind of paint is condensed with phenol and formaldehyde to generate thermoplastic or thermosetting phenolic resin, which is dissolved in ethanol to make varnish. Thermoplastic products can be self-drying, and have a certain resistance to gasoline, acid, and insulation, but the paint film is brittle, so it is rarely used. Thermosetting needs to be dried, and can also be self-dried with a curing agent. It is oil-resistant, water-resistant, and insulating, but not resistant to strong acids and alkalis. It can be used as a moisture-proof, insulating, and adhesive paint.


(2) Oil-soluble phenolic resin coating

This kind of paint is made of resin by reacting p-tert-butylphenol or p-phenylphenol and formaldehyde, which is dissolved in oil, and then co-refined with drying oil and other resins to make paint. Its coating film is hard, fast drying, and good adhesion. Except that its weather slightly inferior to alkyd resin paint, its water resistance and chemical corrosion resistance are much better than alkyd paint. It is suitable for anti-corrosion coatings, can paints, insulating paints, water-resistant paints and marine paints.


(3) Modified phenolic resin coating

Rosin modified phenolic resin coating. It is prepared by combining the unsaturated ring of rosin acid with phenolic polycondensate, and then reacting with the carboxyl group of glycerol-esterified rosin acid. This kind of resin is mixed with drying oil to produce phenolic varnishes with different oil degrees, and various phenolic varnishes, enamel paints, blended paints, etc. can be made by adding drier and pigments . Its paint film is tough, dries quickly, and has good performance. It is more water-resistant and durable than ester paint, and its weather resistance is not as good as alkyd enamel. It is inexpensive and widely used in wood, furniture, buildings, machinery, ships and insulation. This type of coating has many varieties and large output, and occupies an important position .

Butanol modified phenolic resin coating. It is made by etherification of thermosetting phenolic condensate and butanol, and then mixed with epoxy resin or drying oil. Its coating film is soft and resistant to chemical corrosion. It is often used in the inner layer of cans, anti-corrosion and electrical insulation in the chemical industry.


(4) Water-soluble phenolic resin coating

Add maleic anhydride to modify the modified phenolic resin and dry oil, and neutralize it with ammonia water to make a water-soluble phenolic resin, then add pigments, solvents, drier materials, etc. to make an electrophoretic coating.
