Perchlorethylene resin coating (code C) is made of polyethylene by further chlorination, and the chlorine content can reach 64%~65%. The structure of perchlorethylene is saturated, and there are few side groups, which can form a dense corrosion-resistant coating film . Volatile coatings can be composed of perchlorethylene resin as the main film-forming substance, plus other synthetic resins, pigments, additives, plasticizers and organic solvents. The modification of other synthetic resins can improve the adhesion . Commonly used resins include rosin-modified phenolic resin, rosin- modified maleic anhydride resin, alkyd resin, acrylic resin, etc. Perchlorethylene varnishes generally use mixed solvents of esters, ketones, and benzene, and butyl acetate, acetone, and toluene are commonly used. Alcohol solvents should not be used in perchlorethylene lacquers , and they cannot be mixed with nitro varnish thinners.

Perchlorethylene paint has poor heat resistance, and is generally suitable for use at -30~60C, and it will decompose if it is higher than 145%C. The solvent releases slowly during construction . Before it is fully dried, the coating film is soft, the adhesion is not strong, and it is elastic; but when it is completely dried, the coating film becomes hard and the adhesion is enhanced. This paint has a low solids content and requires multiple coats. Perchlorethylene paint has good adhesion to wood, paper, and cement. It is easy to repair and maintain as a construction paint. It can be applied to various vehicles, machine tools, electrical equipment, medical equipment, chemical machinery, pipelines, equipment , and buildings. It can be used as anti-corrosion and decorative coating for objects, and it can also be used as a flame-retardant coating on ships, aircrafts, wood and fiber products inside buildings.
