Paint thinning method and operation steps

The paint is adjusted to the construction viscosity according to the following steps.

(1) Check the type and production date of the paint. For paints with high sedimentation properties, it can be inverted for a period of time in advance and shaken properly.

(2) Open the bucket to check and stir evenly. The inspection is mainly to visually observe whether there is turbidity, thickening, gelation and precipitation.

(3) Thinning: Under stirring, gradually add thinner in small amounts for several times until the construction viscosity is reached. During the dilution process, special attention should be paid to paints with strong pigment flocculation and sedimentation (such as black paint and water-based paint) to prevent local over-thinning. In addition, there is an abnormal behavior of the viscosity change of the water-based paint during the dilution process.

(4) Add auxiliary materials : The auxiliary materials to be added before construction are mainly moisture-proof agent, leveling agent, drier, etc.

(5) Filtration: The primer is filtered with a 120-mesh sieve; the topcoat is filtered with a 180-mesh sieve, or first filtered through a 120-mesh filter and then filtered through a 180-mesh filter.

(6) According to the sequence of painting, dilute the primer → topcoat respectively. For quick-drying paint such as nitro paint, it should be used as it is adjusted to ensure the consistency of coating film thickness and color; two-component paint should be used up within the applicable period after mixing; paint with long construction time or large sedimentation (such as Flash paint, pearl paint, etc.), should be stirred during construction to ensure uniform color of the coating film. When the amount of paint is large, the paint tank with constant temperature and stirring cycle should be used, and the paint supply system should be used for larger batches of work, so that the gloss, color and thickness of the coating film can always be kept consistent.
