What are the factors that affect the bursting strength of carton cardboard?

As we all know, the bursting strength of carton board needs to be tested with a Burst Tester. After measuring the relevant results, how to improve the bursting strength of the carton? This requires an understanding of the factors that affect the breaking strength of the carton.

1. The bursting strength of the corrugated box is determined by the bursting strength of the inner layer, outer layer and the base paper itself, and has nothing to do with the corrugated core paper.

2. The bursting strength of the base paper itself is mainly determined by the base paper fibers. The bursting strength is related to the fiber length and the binding force between the fibers. The increase of the fiber length and the increasing of the binding force between the fibers will increase the bursting strength. The paper made from raw wood pulp has a higher burst resistance than recycled pulp, and the paper made from coniferous forest pulp has higher burst resistance than hardwood pulp.

3. When the water content of the cardboard is 5%~6%, the bursting value is the largest. When the moisture content changes within the range of 8~14%, the change of the burst value does not exceed 5%, but when the moisture content reaches 18%, the decrease of the burst value can reach about 10%. That is to say, the corrugated box is stored in an environment with a relative humidity of 50%RH to 80%RH, and its bursting strength changes very little, so the temperature and humidity balance treatment process of the sample can be omitted, thereby greatly shortening the test time.

4. The storage environment of base paper or carton should be 25±5℃, 55±5%RH.

5. Long-term stacking of the roll paper in the warehouse will cause fatigue of the base paper fiber, resulting in a decrease in burst resistance. Experiments show that: if the base paper is stacked for more than 3 months, its bursting strength will drop by 5-8%; if the stacking time is longer than 6 months, the bursting strength will reach more than 10%. Therefore, carton factories should try their best to be professional and first-out when using base paper.
