Additive color mixing and subtractive color mixing

What is additive color mixing?

If a self-colored screen is placed in a dark room, and then a colored light is irradiated onto the screen, light spots of that color will be displayed on the screen. For example, if yellow light shines on a white screen, yellow dots will appear on the screen, and if blue light shines on a white screen, blue-purple dots will appear as a result. Or when the two beams of yellow and blue-violet light shine on the same point on the screen at the same time, at this time, the light point we see will be self-colored; or, red light and green light are shone on the same point , the light spot will be yellow and so on.

Since light is a form of energy, all incident light can be reflected from the screen, so when two different colors of light fall on the same point on the screen, they are all reflected, and the color of the reflected light is due to It is formed by adding the energy of the two incident lights. This method of color mixing is called additive color mixing.

What is subtractive color mixing?

Pigments absorb light. There are mainly 6 colors in the sunlight spectrum.. red, group, yellow, green, blue, purple. When sunlight (or white light) shines on a paint, the paint absorbs light of one color and reflects light of another color, and as a result the paint takes on a color related to the reflected light. When the sun shines on the blue paint, it will absorb all kinds of light in the sun, most of the red light and yellow light, when the sun shines on the yellow paint, it will absorb almost all the purple light, blue light and most of the light. red light. If, after the blue pigment and the yellow pigment are mixed evenly, they will absorb all the traces, red, pigments and most of the blue and yellow light in the sunlight, leaving only the green light, so after the blue pigment and the yellow pigment are mixed, The result is green pigment.

In this way, a new pigment can be formulated by mixing several pigments. The principle is that each pigment will subtract a certain wavelength of light and a certain amount of light energy from the sunlight (or white light) on the mixed color. . Therefore, this method of color mixing is called subtractive color mixing. In the production of latex bran, this color matching method is used when preparing paint according to the specified Color Chart.
