What is a stacking test?

The stacking test is essentially a long-term pressure test on the package with a constant static load. It is suitable for evaluating the compressive strength of the transport package during stacking and the protection ability of the package for the contents. The principle of the test is to place the sample on a horizontal plane and apply a constant static load on the sample.

The national standard GB4857.3 "Packaging, transportation packages, static load stacking test method" requires that the loading plate should be hard enough to bear the load without deformation, and the size of the loading plate should be at least 10 times larger than the sides of the top surface of the sample. 100mm. For light loads, hard-reinforced planks are used; for heavy loads, steel plates are used. The error between the total load of the heavy object and the loading plate and the predetermined stacking load should be controlled within ±2%. According to the special requirements of the test, appropriate imitation molds can be applied on the upper, lower, or upper and lower sides of the sample, and the fluctuation of the load should not exceed ±4% of the predetermined compressive load. When loading, there should be no impact on the specimen. The predetermined pressurized load on the sample can be calculated, where the safety factor (k), stacking height (H) and test duration should be determined according to different packages and the actual circulation environment. When there is no specific regulation, the safety factor can be selected according to the provisions in Table 6-15, and the stacking height and test duration can be selected according to the provisions in Table 6-16. During the test, the damage of the package should be observed and recorded, and the test results should be analyzed.

In addition, a pressure testing machine can also be used for stacking tests of packages. The method of stacking test using a pressure testing machine is mainly to use the pressure provided by the pressure testing machine to replace the loading of heavy objects. You can refer to the national standard GB4857.16 "Stacking test method using a pressure testing machine for packaging and transportation packages". And use the deformation Recorder on the pressure testing machine to continuously record the deformation of the sample during the stacking test.
