Test method for transparency of ink

(1) Purpose and Definition

The determination of ink transparency is based on the needs of color registration. If the transparency of the last printed ink (such as yellow ink) is not satisfactory, the printing effect will not be too satisfactory.

The opposite indicator of transparency is hiding power. The better the hiding power, the worse the transparency. So transparency can also be done by measuring the hiding power.

There are also many methods for measuring transparency, and what we introduce here is the scraping method.

(2) Equipment and materials

1. Utensils.

(1) Minor Ink Knife.

(2) scraping (ink) knife.

2 materials.

(1) Scratch sample paper.

(2) Glass plate.

(3) Method

1. Color measurement items. After scraping the sample, it is mainly to observe and judge the degree to which the black line printed on the scraping paper is covered.

2. The glass plate method of the thickness measurement item. After scraping the sample, place a piece of black paper under the glass plate, observe and judge the transparency of the two inks on the glass plate.

(4) Matters needing attention

1. When mixing ink with a small ink knife, care should be taken not to mix air bubbles, so as not to cause unreliable results.

2. The observation and judgment of transparency also requires experience.

3. Transparency can also be measured with transmissive optical instruments.

4. The setting of the hiding power can be carried out by using a covering power Tester (Pfund's Cryptone-er).
