What is hiding power and how to measure it?

The minimum amount of paint used to paint evenly on the surface of an object so that the base color no longer appears is called hiding power. Expressed in grams per square meter.

The current method of testing hiding power in our country is to use the weight per unit area method—the black and white grid method. That is to say, paint the sample evenly on a 100 mm x 200 mm black and white grid glass plate, under scattered light or in a specified light source, visually observe until the black and white grid is just invisible, and calculate the amount of paint used. The formula for calculating the hiding power X (grams per square meter) is:

Note: Internationally, the more popular method is to use black and white grid opacity paper, which is economical and cheap, and easy to carry, which is convenient for version matching with customers.
