What is silicate paint?

Silicate coatings are inorganic zinc-rich coatings with a high zinc content and are non-flammable. The silicates present in these coatings act as mineral binders, giving these coatings a strong, long-lasting bond to the substrate. This type of paint is considered environmentally friendly, durable and weather-resistant.

Unlike usual coating materials, no film forms on the substrate material because these coatings form a bond directly to the substrate. The result is a highly stable, lightweight, fast and durable coating with particularly convincing long-lasting colors and natural effects.

Silicate coatings are also known as silicate mineral coatings or mineral coatings. When it comes to environmentally friendly, fast-pigmenting interior and exterior paints, silicate coatings are the high-quality, professional coatings of choice.

Silicate coatings do not form a layer, but instead bond to the substrate over a long period of time in a process called siliconization. Silicate coatings require a silicon substrate to cure. They are therefore ideal for substrates such as mineral plasters and concrete.

There are three types of silicate coatings:

  • Pure silicate paint

  • Disperse Silicate Coatings

  • Sol Silicate Coatings
