What are the common bending test applications and test standards?

Bending test

A bend test deforms a test material at a midpoint, resulting in a concave surface or a bend without breaking, and is often used to determine a material's ductility or fracture resistance. Instead of loading a material until it fails, a bend test deforms a sample into a specific shape. Bend testing is as popular as tensile testing, compression testing, and fatigue testing.

Typically, bend testing is performed on metals or metallic materials, but can be applied to any substance that can undergo plastic deformation, such as polymers and plastics. These materials can take any workable shape, but when used for bend testing, sheets, bars, rods, shells, and tubes are common. Bend tests are generally used for materials with acceptably high ductility.
