Groove die coating application

The deposition of highly uniform thin films is of great importance for a variety of different technologies. Slot die coating's ability to coat over a wide range of viscosities and high web speeds means the technology can be used for excellent film manufacturing as well as low cost, high volume products. A variety of products use slot die coating as a thin film deposition method, including:

  • Battery Technology - Deposition of electrolyte slurries in battery technology is increasingly done by slot die coating. The extremely high viscosity of these solutions makes other techniques unsuitable for large-scale coating.

  • Optical Coatings - Thin film coatings are frequently used in construction to apply reflective and anti-reflective coatings on windows.

Carbon Fiber – Nanocomposites containing carbon fiber can be coated using a slot die coater, and these lightweight, mechanically strong materials are finding applications in aerospace and automotive.

  • Antistatic Coatings - Thin conductive films of PEDOT:PSS can be applied to a variety of surfaces. These conductive films can dissipate the accumulated charge on the surface of the object.

  • Thin Film Electronics - Thin film solution processed semiconductor materials can be deposited by slot die coating. These semiconductor layers can be used to make light-emitting diodes, photovoltaic cells, and even transistors.

  • Conductive Films - Slurries of metallic nanoparticles such as 2D nanowires or even carbon nanotubes can be coated on surfaces to create conductive films to begin the fabrication of thin film devices.
